# Number
> [Constructor][mdn-number] which wraps a numeric value in an object.
## Usage
```javascript
var Number = require( '@stdlib/number/ctor' );
```
#### Number( value )
Returns a [`Number`][mdn-number] object.
```javascript
var v = new Number( 5.0 );
// returns
```
## Notes
- This constructor should be used sparingly. **Always** prefer number primitives.
## Examples
```javascript
var randu = require( '@stdlib/random/base/randu' );
var Number = require( '@stdlib/number/ctor' );
var v;
var i;
for ( i = 0; i < 100; i++ ) {
v = new Number( randu() );
console.log( 'typeof %d: %s', v, typeof v );
}
